Janelle Monae toasts Grammy nominated women
Musician Janelle Monae teams up with Instagram to host a special brunch celebrating the nominated women for this year’s Grammy.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (Reuters) – Musician Janelle Monae kicked off Grammy weekend Friday (February 8) by hosting a special brunch in Los Angeles.
Teaming up with Instagram, she fronted the Fem The Future event to celebrate the nominated women in music of this year’s awards which take place on Sunday.
Asked why she has taken on the role of being a voice for equality in the music industry and beyond, she told Reuters: “It’s just that it comes down to a fundamental, simple question, do you feel it is your responsibility to uplift and support the women who inspire you? I do. And also do you feel it’s your responsibility to help uplift those who may come from more marginalized communities than you? I do.”
Among those attending the event were Grammy nominees H.E.R., Charlie XCX, Chloe X Halle, Brandi Carlile and Linda Perry.
The Grammys will be handed out at a lavish ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 10).
