(REUTERS) – She may be best known for her singing career, but Madonna has another cause close to her heart.
The musician launched a $60,000 fundraiser on Monday to support her work with children in Malawi.
It had already raised more than $10,000 in the first 24 hours.
The singer, who shot to fame in the 1980s, said 100 percent of every contribution would go directly to her Raising Malawi foundation’s rural orphanage, Home of Hope.
She founded Raising Malawi in 2006 and has since built a children’s hospital in the city of Blantyre.
Madonna has adopted four children from the African nation in the past 10 years.
She launched the fundraiser, which will run throughout August, to mark her 60th birthday on the 16th of the month.
