One killed in apartment fire at Trump Tower in New York

One man was killed and six firefighters received minor injuries in an apartment fire on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in New York on Saturday, in a blaze that was quickly extinguished, authorities said. New York City Fire Dept. Commissioner Daniel Nigro said no member of President Trump’s family was in the building at the time.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (CBS, REUTERS) – One man was killed and six firefighters received minor injuries in an apartment fire on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in New York on Saturday, in a blaze that was quickly extinguished, fire officials said.

The victim, Todd Brassner, 67, was found unresponsive and unconscious in his 50th floor apartment and was pronounced dead at an area hospital, police said.

No information about the cause of the fire was available late Saturday night.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who has an office and a private residence in the midtown Manhattan structure, was not in the building at the time.

“Fire at Trump Tower is out. Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!” Trump tweeted.

Fire officials said no member of the Trump family was in the building at the time.
