Golden solar halos appear over north China city

Hebei Province,China, China Central Television (CCTV) – Two spectacular solar halos were spotted over the city of Zhangjiakou, north China’s Hebei Province, at 07:30 on Friday, according to reports.

The halos on both sides of the sun offered a rare scene of “three suns” when viewed from a distance.

The halo lasted for nearly 10 minutes.

According to meteorologists, a solar halo is an atmospheric optical phenomenon. It is caused by ice crystals formed from water vapor and condensed at a high enough altitude. Those ice crystals refract with the incoming sunlight to create a luminous halo.
